Gen Con Indy 2007 Report
OUR FIRST TIME
Whew! I don't think I have ever been so tired, excited, and anxious in my entire life than the days following Gen Con Indy. While I have attended as a fan before, this was the first time that I had attended as an exhibitor. |
|
Where we once were a collection of folks toiling in obscurity, we have put the fruit of our labor in front of the crowd and received an excellent response. Our booth was unique and generated a lot of interest, and though we had plans to re-use it, we unfortunately had to scrap it. Never fear, we have plans for a bigger and better booth next year!
ANIMALITY
I could not be more pleased with the reception Animality received from the Con attendees! By Sunday, we had sold out and had to start directing folks to our website. We demonstrated Animality nearly continuously and folks really enjoyed it. The game also attracted a lot of attention from retailers, media attendees, and educators. The chance to create your own animal and let it loose on the world seemed to capture everyone's imagination. This was our very first release, and we got a lot of feedback on both the playability and appearance of the game. Please stay posted for a FAQ with some of the great suggestions we received. As fate would have it, an evolutionary biologist even played the game and gave it his seal of approval!
K’UHUL
We got a terrific response from this game as well. Demoing the game alongside Animality proved to be a stroke of genius, as when one person (usually a more serious gamer) would run through the Animality demo, we could get an entire game in with their significant other. The straightforward play, quick game time, and alluring Mayan runes won over many hearts. The game also really struck a chord with the more mathematically inclined in the audience who could really appreciate the deep level of play. It was very satisfying to have one award-winning game designer say, "This game is blowing my mind!" and immediately snap up a copy.
WHAT THE FUTURE HOLDS
The most exciting (and nerve-stretching) part of all this is that we are just getting started. We have a plethora of new games in the pipeline, each with unique gameplay, terrific art, and captivating themes. Even now, I get ahead of myself. Animality and K'uhul will receive all the support we can muster. Expect to see reviews in magazines and websites (review copies are bring sent to Knucklebones as well as other periodicals online and off). Expect to see our smiling faces at Origins, Genghis Con, Dragon Con and other gatherings across the U.S.
THANK YOU TO ALL THE FOLKS WHO VISITED WITH US
With all the terrific things that have been going on around us these past few weeks, please let me take a moment to say Thank You. Let me thank Tricia Diaz for doing such a wonderful job on the art - everybody loved it! David Briggs for being the voice of the people and making everyone feel comfortable coming to our booth and letting me hob-nob with his friends in the industry. Dave Overman and Walter Lounsbury for developing a terrific demo for a game as multifaceted as Animality. The GAMA Retailer Focus Group for giving their frank and constructive critique of our offerings. Finally, everyone who sat down and played with us. Your comments and enthusiasm for our games still makes me blush with pleasure for being able to meet you. If you ever find anything at fault with our games, please let us know, and I'll do my best to make it right! You are all now my friends and I'll try to do everything I can to keep it that way.
ARS LUDUS!
(For those of you interested... "Ars Ludus" is our tagilne, roughly translating from Latin as "The art of the Game")
